Overview
Dr. Megan Connell is a board-certified psychologist in private practice who formerly served in the US Army. In her current work she utilizes tabletop role-playing games as a clinical intervention. In 2017 she co-founded the media company Geeks Like Us which focuses on geek and gaming culture. She is the author of the upcoming book Tabletop Role-Playing Therapy. She is a board member for Geek Therapeutics a training platform that develops professional programs teaching the inclusion of games in clinical practices. Dr. Connell speaks nationally on the intersection of gaming and psychology and on geek culture.
Dr. Megan Connell often speaks on the intersection of gaming and psychology. She has been featured on several podcasts and web series including, GM Tips on Geek and Sundry, the Dragon Talk Podcast, D&D Beyond, Nerdarchry and others. She has been featured in print media in places such as SyFy Wired and Forbes. She regularly speaks at gaming conventions such as PAX, Gamehole Con, and Gary Con.
Dr. Connell provides community talks on topics such as social media use in teens, how to talk about social media use with children, online safety, and how to use gaming to bring families together. Through her media company Geeks Like Us, Dr. Connell hosts the show Clinical Roll a live-play D&D show featuring psychologists and therapeutic game masters as players, Psychology at the Table, a show about how GM’s can be accommodating to players with various needs, the Brain Noodles Podcast, where psychologists talk about self-care and different odd topics, She is the host of The Geeks Like Us Book Club a monthly community book club discussing epic fantasy books, and is the co-host of the Geeks Like Us Podcast where professionals who have woven their geek interests into their profession are interviewed.
Dr. Connell also provides training and continuing education events. Most of her continuing education events are through Geek Therapeutics. She also provides individual consultation and small group trainings on the applied use of tabletop role-playing games. She has also coauthored several book chapters and has written a book entitled Tabletop Role-Playing Therapy that will be published in early 2023.
