You feel anxious, overwhelmed, alone and just do not know how to set boundaries with your friends. It can be hard to know who to trust and how to handle difficult situations. You want to learn skills so that your life can improve, but the thought of talking through your problems in a group is unappealing.
Now, slaying monsters, going on adventures, all with others who have been dealing with the same things? That seems like a more appealing option.
This group run by Dr. Megan Connell is designed to help teach assertiveness skills, teamwork, and methods for coping with anxiety all while playing D&D. No previous experience with D&D or other tabletop games is needed. Dr. Connell will provide all of the needed items to participate.
The group will be limited to 4 players, ages 14-19.
This virtual group will meet weekly on Tuesday from 6:30pm-8:00pm Eastern starting on 20 September 2022. All those interested will do a 30-minute screening with Dr. Connell before the first meeting. The cost of the group is $120 per week.
*The term girls is to include fully transitioned Trans girls and those identifying as non-binary who were assigned female at birth.
The first meeting will be a special session called session zero. During this meeting we will create the world the characters will explore, discuss our expectations for the group, create safety tools, and address what topics we do not want to be part of the group. During this first meeting, we all will create characters together and why these characters have chosen to adventure together. Dr. Connell will provide each player with their character sheet at the end of the session.
Subsequent meetings will include check-in, playing the game, processing throughout and things to think about or reflect upon between games.
